Mencia
The Mencia grape variety gives rise to fine wines. It is the main variety in the PDO Bierzo»Protected designation of origin».
It adapts to warm, fertile and a bit dry lands. High in sugar and low in acidity, resulting in a smooth and very aromatic wines.
Grape-juices are very fruity and aromatic, they don’t have much brightness, but they can give depht color in advanced ripenings and regulation of production.
The red wines are made from Mencia grapes, are fruity wines, velvety with great color.
Emphasized and accept very well aging wood. It is also very suitable for young wines.
In PDO Bierzo authorized varieties for red wine are Mencía and garnacha grapes , with a minimum proportion of the first 70%.
This variety is known as»Black» in the Bierzo, occupies more than 65% of the grapes grown, adapting perfectly to the conditions found in this area. They are made in today varietal wines from this grape, high quality, both in young and vintages.
